TREES

I love trees - and I was delighted that Carmi's Thematic Challenge is TREES this week.

We used to live in the Chiltern Beechwoods, and I think beeches are one of the most beautiful trees. There is a huge one in the park, with lovely roots, full of hollows and "hidey holes" that we played with when we were children.

And this is the same beech tree in the snow.

I like trees too, in misty or foggy mornings, when everything is quiet, and you can hear the drips off the leaves falling on the ground. Sometimes they are just beautiful, sometimes quite spooky.

The patterns formed by the branches fascinate me. These fanned willow branches result from coppicing the trees to get straight wood for fencing, or basket work. Though I think this particular willow was last coppiced a long time ago!

And just for the memory - my sister and I many, many years ago, swinging on the branch of a beech tree near our home.

Gilly these are terrific photos and a wonderful posting. I too, love trees! I find my woods very healing to be in and my heart breaks when I see beautiful trees cut down so that man can put in a concrete jungle...

Ah, a fellow tree lover. I also love trees and can understand when people hug them. I like to feel their bark when I pass by them and give them a few words.
We recently lost an Elm tree at the top of our road and I honestly had tears in my eyes when I saw it. All those years of growing to end in a single moment, so sad.
I especially like then in silhouette at night, they looks so majestic.
We have one outside our bedroom window with a man's face on the side, this same tree is a nest for a couple of great tits this year as well.
Thanks for the photo's

I wish I was better at identifying trees. I have taken guided nature walks with 'experts' who point out the bark and leaf variations and I think I will remember...

Sometime, I think I love trees best in winter when they are naked. But then, the leaves appear and I get all excited.

Love the roots, great take on the theme!

The beech roots say it all about those trees, I walk along the side of a beech wood several days a week.
The old coppiced willow is interesting to.

I enjoy trees also; their shapes fascinate me, which is why I have one I took at Ocracoke Island (my post today)as my insignia!

The first photo is my favorite of your tree photos. It kind of reminds me of beach erosion. Oh, and I *love* the photo of you and your sister!
